Home Care Packages

What is a Home Care Packages?

Home Care Packages (HCP) provides access to older Australian citizens to get some assistance while living at home. Australia’s Government has come up with home care packages by introducing subsidies for your proper care and support so that you could live independently at home. With the help of HCP, a professional provider can help you in meeting your needs but make sure you’re eligible for it.

Four Categories

For care and support services, four levels of home care packages are established so far.

  • Basic Level of Care: Up to 3 hours of care per week
  • Low Level of Care: Almost 3-5 hours of care per week depending upon your needs
  • Intermediate Level of Care: Care and support services of up to 8-11 hours per week
  • High Level of Care: 10-15 hours of care per week

For each level of care, the different subsidy amount is given. If you’re eligible, you need to select a Home Care Package Provider that can identify your needs and the relevant package accordingly. The subsidy amount is not paid directly to you, and you need to select an approved provider that can coordinate and manage your care services on your behalf.

Some of the major services under the Home Care Package are as follows:

  • Personal Care: Assistance in showering, hygiene, grooming, mobility, and so on.

  • Nursing: Assistance in medicines and wound or injuries management
  • Domestic assistance: help with the basic chores in your home
  • Transport: assistance in social activities, shopping and medical appointments.
Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility depends on your needs and determined through assessment. However, here are the two things that can make you eligible.

  • An older person who needs care and support services to stay at home
  • A young person with disability, dementia or other care needs that cannot be met through other specialist services.

Keep in mind that Home Care Packages are not designed for visitors in Australia who need short-term care services. Make sure choosing the right provider for you that can determine your needs and goals and selecting such a level of package that you really need.
