Homecare Packages
Enhancing Independence and Well-being
Explore the Benefits of Home Care Packages for Older Australians
Government Subsidies for Independent Living: Home Care Packages (HCP) are a government initiative aimed at providing subsidies for older Australian citizens to receive care and support while remaining in the comfort of their own homes. These packages are designed to empower individuals by offering personalized assistance tailored to their specific needs and preferences.
Four Levels of Care: The HCP program offers four categories of care and support services, each corresponding to a different level of care. These levels include Basic, Low, Intermediate, and High, with varying hours of care provided per week. This ensures that individuals receive the appropriate amount of support based on their unique requirements.
Personalized Care Plans: Eligible individuals can work with a professional home care provider to develop a personalized care plan that addresses their specific needs and goals. This plan takes into account factors such as medical conditions, mobility, and daily activities, ensuring that the care and support received aligns with the individual’s preferences and promotes their overall well-being.

Understanding the Four Levels of Home Care Packages
Basic Level of Care: The Basic level of care provides up to 3 hours of care per week, offering essential support for individuals who require minimal assistance with daily tasks and activities.
Low Level of Care: The Low level of care offers approximately 3-5 hours of care per week, catering to individuals with slightly higher needs. This level of care ensures that individuals receive additional support to maintain their independence and quality of life.
Intermediate Level of Care: The Intermediate level of care provides care and support services ranging from 8-11 hours per week. This level of care is suitable for individuals who require more comprehensive assistance with various aspects of daily living.
High Level of Care: The High level of care offers 10-15 hours of care per week, providing extensive support for individuals with complex care needs. This level of care ensures that individuals receive a higher level of assistance to meet their specific requirements.

Determining Eligibility for a Home Care Package
Meeting Care Needs and Support Services
- Older Person Requiring Care and Support Services: If you are an older person who requires care and support services to continue living independently at home, you may be eligible for a Home Care Package. These packages are specifically designed to provide the necessary assistance and support to meet your unique needs.
- Young Person with Specialized Care Needs: Home Care Packages are not limited to older individuals. Younger people with disabilities, dementia, or other complex care needs that cannot be adequately met through other specialist services may also be eligible. These packages aim to cater to the specific care requirements of younger individuals, ensuring their well-being and comfort.
It is important to note that Home Care Packages are not intended for visitors in Australia who require short-term care services. These packages are designed for individuals who require ongoing, long-term care and support.
The Steps to Obtain a Home Care Package:
To determine your eligibility for a Home Care Package or any other help at home services, you will need to contact My Aged Care at 1800 200 422. The My Aged Care contact centre will guide you through the process, asking you a series of questions to assess your needs.
If it is determined that you require an assessment, an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine your eligibility for a Home Care Package. The ACAT will also determine the appropriate level of package that best meets your care needs.
Once you are approved as eligible and in need of care, you will be allocated one level of a Home Care Package. The level of package you receive is based on your assessed care needs, and each level provides a different subsidy amount.
The subsidy amount is paid to your selected approved home care provider and contributes to the overall cost of your services and care delivery. However, it is expected that you will contribute to the cost of your care based on your personal circumstances.
By following these steps and going through the assessment process, you can access the appropriate level of support and care through a Home Care Package, enabling you to continue living comfortably and independently in your own home.
